U-Turn
I adopted U-Turn from Xenia, OH in July 2005. He is a 12 or 13-year-old long-haired black and tan doxie who has brought an amazing amount of love into my life! Uey is the sweetest, most loving dog I've ever met. He had separation anxiety when I first adopted him, but he is on medication and I often find him sleeping happily under a chair or on the couch when I get home from the hospital... He adores our 11-year-old basset hound Lilly, and LOVES walks with the family! Uey just looks at me with those huge brown eyes, and I hug him tight and get kisses from him! U-turn has been the best thing to happen to me, and reminds me to slow down and enjoy the fun and love that he shows me daily. His tail is constantly wagging, and he gallops so fast when it's time to go inside for dinner! He makes me burst out laughing often just by being his old senior self. Uey is so good for his baths, and loves to be dried with my hairdryer when we're finished! I am a vet student, and plan on continuing to adopt senior doxies for the rest of my life!

Next time I'll get two... They are truly the BEST :)

Uli
Uli here! Hi! They used to call me "Dewey" but I think that this little German name suits me much better. I've been told that my original name was "Doodlebug" when I lived at the breeder's in West Virginia. Thank goodness I set them straight with that one! Since leaving the great folks of DRNA, I've moved to DC and have done so much with my new family. We go to the dog park, the beach, and the dog-friendly FDR Memorial; also I ride the boats on the Chesapeake and attend all those dachshund meetups with my big sister. I've learned how to walk on a leash, and I love to help with the recycling! Here's my method: when mom's at work, I tip over the bin and pull out all the plastics and papers, juuuuuust to make sure the can is clean. Sometimes a bit of yogurt or a popsicle wrapper gets in there, you know, and has to be licked spotless.

Jane at DRNA brought me to my forever home this past January. I'll always remember that I was wearing my green sweater. That's the day I met my big sister Gretchen. She was a very sick dachshund in a crate who had back surgery scheduled for the next day. Mom and Dad thought that a new friend would revitalize her, because she had always liked being the alpha. Anyway, I was so curious that I kept tiptoeing over to check on her throughout her recovery. And she recovered so well! Now Gretchen is doing great at 13 years old. She tries to mother me...and I let her groom my face....only sometimes.

Well, if you'll excuse me, I've got some business to attend to. I think my presence has been requested at a pro-squeaky toys coalition in our kitchen. Life here sure is fast-paced!
