Oscar ended up in the shelter because his family was evicted from their home and he had nowhere to go. Oscar's big problem in life is that he has separation anxiety when his person leaves the home even if someone else is with him. He is not destructive but he searches for that person, whining. We have to sedate him with Xanax during these times. Because of this he requires a very patient understanding adopter who is knowledgeable about separation anxiety and has had personal experience dealing with it. Other than that, he loves to be outside and gets along well with his three foster brothers. He walks well on a leash. He takes some time to warm up to people and is not very accepting of strangers so he has to be watched. He is crate- and house-trained. Oscar will need an all-adult dachshund savvy home with a single-family securely fenced yard and a friendly dog buddy about his age and size. Children can make him nervous. He should be crated when visitors come to the home. ***Applicants must be willing to drive to Ellicott City, Maryland (10 miles south of Baltimore) to meet and adopt Oscar.****
