Sassy came into rescue along with 4 other wirehair seized by Animal Control for horrible neglect. She was half bald and so thin (6lbs) and weak we weren’t sure if she would survive. But this little girl is a fighter and with some medical care, food, grooming and love she came around and is now a sassy senior. And other than when she was coming out of anesthesia we have never heard her bark or make a sound….. Yes, can you believe it a quiet dachshund! Sassy is mostly blind but hears just fine and will come trotting to find you when called, when you get home or she smells food. And even though she lost almost all her teeth during her dental she still eats like the starving dachshund she was. Being so tiny she needs to be pickup to join you on the sofa. And she will need to be carried up/down any steps just hold on tight if food is involved as she can be a real wiggle worm. Her slow trot (more like a totter….so cute) and poor eye sight would make leash walking very difficult so a fenced yard is preferred. At night or when we leave the house she sleeps in a baby gated bathroom on a heated bed during the colder months. We believe she and the others were kept in a wire pen in her past home so she wasn’t happy in a crate when she arrived pacing around trying to get out. She gets along well with other dogs as long as they aren’t too rough and since she has never not had a companion dachshund one is preferred. Sassy loves going out exploring new places and smells, meeting new people and getting attention that she was denied for so many years. So an ideal adopter is one that is looking for a companion to take with them when out and about. Or one that is home most of the time and needs a sofa buddy.
If interested in possibly adding Sassy to you family please fill out and application. This little girl has had a rough life and deserves a loving family to call her own.
*Distance restriction will be waived if approved adopter is willing to come to Virginia Beach, VA, to pick her up.
