Donate a Back Surgery
Dachshund
Rescue of North America is one of the only dachshund rescue
groups that will take in dogs needing back surgery on a regular
basis. We never turn one away if we have the funds available
to pay for the surgery and open foster space. We do not discriminate,
even if their chance of walking again is less than 100%. We
have many members and foster homes across the country experienced
in the care and recovery of a dog after back surgery.
The cost of surgery differs from region to region. For example,
in SC the myelogram, surgery and recovery medications costs
about $1,700.00 and in VA it runs about $3,500.00.
The foster family works diligently to get the dog walking
again by performing physical therapy or water therapy as soon
as the dog is discharged from the hospital. Taking care of
a post-op dachshund is very time consuming and difficult at
times but it is one of the most rewarding parts of fostering.
It brings tears to your eyes to see all your hard work pay
off when you see the patient take his first steps after he
was given a 50% chance of ever walking again. There are some
dogs that never fully recover from surgery and they could
care less. Dogs can live a full and complete life as a cart
dog.

Disk Disease) which is the reason for most back surgeries,
