Donate Heartworm Prevention

First of all, before we can talk about heartworm prevention, it’s important that you know what important part they play in the life of a dog.

Heartworms are always serious and potentially fatal. Heartworms lodge themselves in a dog’s heart and can also lead to other organ failure if not taken care of properly. But I’m here to tell you about heartworm preventative. First of all, there are so many brands out there, how do you choose which one is right for your dog? DRNA supports “Interceptor” as it kills an additional intestinal worm that others don’t. It’s important that whatever medication you choose, you follow the directions in giving your dog the appropriate dosage and at consistent intervals. If you miss a month or your dog spits a pill out without you seeing it, your dog could be a victim of heartworms! Dogs should be kept on heartworm prevention all year long regardless of the region in which you live.

All DRNA dogs are given heartworm preventative year-round while in foster care. When DRNA dogs are adopted, the foster home sends a one-month supply of preventative with each dog to their new home. This gives adopters a chance to introduce their new family member to their vet and get a supply of heartworm prevention.
