| Description: Dixie May's life has not been one of ease. And nor it ever will be. Dixie was found in a pen in the backyard of a breeder's, along with 5 other dogs. The breeder had went into the hospital, and never came back. When Dixie was rescued, everyone thought she had a ruptured disc, because of her little humped back. But no, all her of back disc are fine. Dixie has a neurological problem which most resembles cerebral palsy in humans. She can walk, it is not pretty, but she can even run. She also potties just fine and has good control also with it. Dixie is HW positive, but because of her problem, she can not have the regular treatment, where she would get injections in her back. This would mostly cause painful spasms in her back. So monthly Heartgard is her plan of treatment for now. Dixie also goes to weekly therapy sessions, where her muscles are stretched, exercised and massaged. This helps her gain strength in her back, and allows her to have better coordination. Dixie also wears an anxiety wrap which helps her from getting car sick, and helps her relax more at her therapy sessions. Dixie often feels like she is falling because of her neuro problem, so the wrap helps her feel more safe and secure. Dixie may have several problems, but, she does not lack in personality. She still has the ability to love unconditionally and is such a sweetheart. She is a little shy when she meets new people, but soon she becomes a little social butterfly. She loves showing off at her therapy sessions. Dixie is quite an amazing girl, and we all just love her. She will need a special home. One where she will be loved of course. Where she can continue to receive weekly therapy sessions. She can not do steps, although we are working on step ups with her. And she loves to explore the yard, so a nice yard is a must for her. Dixie loves to play with other dogs, as long as they are gentle with her. If you think you can provide the type of love and home Dixie needs, please file an application at www.drna.org. Dixie is located in SW PA. |
