| Duchess is the sweetest girl you could ask for. She is potty trained, calm, mild mannered and so loving. She hardly barks, not even when someone rings the doorbell! She will bark at the birds though sometimes! She loves to play with her foster brothers and sisters (all dachshunds). She would be fine as an only dog or with one or 2 dog buddies. We have not seen her around cats, but I believe she would do fine (except maybe try to sneak something out of the litter box). Also unsure about her experience with children, but my gut feeling says a quiet home would be preferable for her. Duchess came into rescue very overweight, and she has made great strides (good quality food, portion control and exercise.) Any potential adopters MUST be willing to keep her on this path to good health. She loves to go for walks (must use halter),chase birds in the yard, chew on squeaky toys and balls (NO FURRY OR STUFFED ONES- she destroys them) and just relax with her people on the couch. She is crate trained, but because of her great potty training and non destructive habits we do not place her in a kennel during the day while we are at work. She does sleep in a kennel at night by our bed with lots of comfy blankets, but if she is not near you at night she will howl. I think in Duchess's perfect world she would prefer the big bed, but is content in a comfortable kennel. Duchess would be the perfect dog for a loving, nurturing family who will give her plenty of attention and care.
