Biography
Penelope is a sweet, cuddly, chocolate, long-haired princess. She loves belly rubs, walks, brushing with a soft brush, and couch time. She gets a long well with her foster brothers and sisters - big and small, Golden Retriever to Dachshunds - but is more happy being with just her people. She is good for her baths in the sink, vet visits and nail trims. She is not destructive at all. Penelope’s one behavioral issue is that she takes great pride in flipping her dog food bowl so that food goes everywhere, watching you pick it up and put it back in the bowl. Then she eats.
She is crate trained but would much prefer being in your big bed and will protest a little. She has not been around any children but would probably do fine if they were quiet and respectful. Penelope does chase cats.
Penelope came to DRNA with some serious medical issues - double ear infections, dental issues, urinary tract infection and a bladder full of Struvite bladder stones. All these have been taken care of by our veterinarians. Penelope is on a restricted diet of either Science Diet Prescription C/D or Royal Canin S/O because she had a cystotomy to remove her bladder stones. She will also require a urinary analysis every couple of months for awhile to make sure the pH levels in her urine stay in the normal ranges and that no crystals are present, so that bladder stones do not form again. She currently eats Science Diet C/D and her pH levels are perfect. She is a very slow eater - nibbler-and it will take her all day to finish her allotted food. We do feed her in her crate as our other dogs would finish her food for her.
Penelope is a wonderful quiet, little girl and would make a lovely companion for someone that wants a little Diva girl to devote their time to.
