Biography
Hi my name is Rascal and up until a few weeks ago I lived in a dog world. You see I was a stud dog for a breeder, but after a few litters my owner decided to retire and neuter me. When she could not find a proper home for me she turned me over to DRNA, knowing they would find me the prefect home.

Needless to say a dog world is very different from the world I am now in at my foster home. I was VERY nervous when I first arrived, shy, tense & timid around humans and didn't like to be picked up (I never growled or nipped). But I was put on a program called "forced love" were my foster parents and their friend would take turns holding, cuddling and petting me. I quickly learned that people were nice; they could scratch the places I could reach and show me the pleasure of a good belly rub. Now I bounce for joy when I see my foster parents because I can't wait to get in their laps and if they are lucky give them a kiss. I am just such a happy boy now and it is pure delight to figure out something new like getting up the steps to the big bed.

In many ways I am just like a puppy in my new world. I am learning about toys and treats, what I can and can't do in a home (I have never done anything destructive like chew on things I shouldn't) and what NO means. I am not a big barker, can use a doggie door and am doing very well with my house training. I love to chase and play in the yard with the other dachshunds in the house and then curl up with them when it is nap time.

Since I have always had dachshund companions, I will only be placed in a home with another dachshund(s) around my age. I do well with both males and females, but seem to prefer male company. My prefect home would be one that would adopt my foster brother and buddy Heinrich. He has helped me a lot with learning the ropes of being a pet and I help him stay calm… my foster Mom says we balance each other. I am not cat friendly and am not very good with larger dogs.

So if you are looking to add another dog (or 2) to your family and like to give belly rubs, please consider me. My foster family hate to see me go but know that I need my own forever family.
