Biography

Description: Meet Heinrich, German for "Rules his household". Well, that attitude is part of his problem and when the young child in his house messed with his food he snapped at her. Therefore his owners sadly turned to DRNA to find him a new home and one better suited to his needs. He cannot be placed in a home with small children or with those who aren't very familiar with the dachshund personality. As you can see by his picture he is a sweet handsome boy and a classic dachshund. But he does need a firm hand and savvy dachshund owner to work with him, as he also has the classic dachshund attitude. He is house broken and crate trained and does not seem to be a marker like many males (he squats instead of doing the leg lift). He has no real interest in toys, he just wants to be in a lap and given the love and attention he deserves or curled up beside you on the sofa napping. He is cautious of strangers but once he knows you he is a real lover.

Heinrich does well with other dachshunds, male or female and would definitely benefit from having a companion dachshund as he has bonded with his fellow foster, Rascal. He does not do well with cats. Update: In the time that Heinrich has been in foster care with Rascal they have formed a bond that we do not want to break. Rascal was a breeder dog and his companionship with Heinrich has changed him remarkably and made more accepting of people. He is lost when Heinrich is not around.
